Description: Our fragrant garam masala blend contains some of the finest spices ready ground and blended for your convenience for adding to curries, soups, and meat and vegetable dishes. It is a fragrant, warming aromatic blend of ground black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin and ginger that can add delicious layers of flavour to your cooking. Coriander adds a touch of spiced lemon, ginger adds warmth and pungency, whilst cinnamon adds a touch of sweetness, cumin and cloves add bitterness and pungency on two taste levels, cumin offers the savoury whilst cloves and ginger offer a warm sweet note which is topped off with black pepper which adds gentle heat to the blend. All 6 spices complement each other so well giving you a tasty, aromatic result every time.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that garam masala is usually added at the end of the dishes cooking time and is also used in Indian cuisine as a seasoning in the way that we use salt and pepper? Adding the spice blend at the end of the cooking time allows the flavours to be stronger and more vibrant, adding at the start of the dishes cooking time will result in the spice blend mellowing and having a subtler effect at flavouring the dish. Garam masala loosely translates to ‘warm spice’? The word ‘garam’ means ‘heat’ but this doesn’t indicate that the spices contained in the blend are hot, but that they have a warming/heating effect on the body when eaten, masala means ‘spice’.

SUGGESTED USEGaram masala works well with meat and vegetables, add as a base to create your own curry blend and build on it adding chilli for heat, cardamom for additional spicy sweetness, the choice is yours. You can add the blend to savoury breads, soups and sauces. Why not make your own curried beans? Simply fry off some finely chopped onion, add garam masala to your taste, pour in a tin of baked beans and add a few sultanas and simmer over a low heat until cooked, serve as part of a main meal or use to top a jacket potato for a warming lunch. The blend can also be used as a condiment and sprinkled on to your finished dish just before serving as a seasoning.
