Product: Piri Piri Spice
Description: The Piri Piri chilli also known as the African Bird’s Eye Chili (Capsicum frutescens) is an extremely hot member of the Capsicum family which registers at up to 100,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), by comparison a pimento pepper registers at between 100-500 SHU’s. Our piri piri spice is fiery blend of garlic, salt, chilli, onion, basil and cayenne pepper, a little goes a long way and can be used to add spicy heat to meat, poultry and fish dishes.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that the sauce known as piri piri sauce is Portuguese in origin? The piri piri chilli peppers grow wild in Africa and he spice mix is particularly popular in Angola, Namibia, Mozambique and South Africa. Variations on the blend occur and include the addition of ingredients such as lemon peel, bay leaves, tarragon and pepper.
Ingredients: Garlic, Sea Salt, Chilli, Onion, Basil and Cayenne Pepper.
Allergy Advice: This product contains chilli and basil which contain naturally occurring sources of salicylates and is best avoided by people eating a salicylate free diet, and by those people following a low sodium diet due to the salt content.
SUGGESTED USEAdd piri piri spice to olive oil and drizzle on the top of chicken prior to cooking, this hot, fiery blend of spices can also be used in a variety of ways, but a little goes a long way, so use sparingly, used as a dry rub or wet marinade it adds flavour to poultry, fish, meat and vegetables. Sprinkle it lightly over freshly popped corn to make a tasty spicy savoury snack, or sprinkle over potato wedges or homemade crisps. Add to minced chicken, turkey or pork with a little chopped onion to make your own spicy piri piri burgers. Mix into salad dressings or low fat yogurt to make marinades, dips or toppings for baked potatoes and salads, or sprinkle on to fish and roasts before grilling or baking.
Shelf life of two years provided that goods are stored in an airtight container in ambient conditions.
