Product: Togarashi Spice Blend
Description: Togarashi Spice, also known as Shichimi and Japanese Seven Spice is a classic blend of ingredients including chilli, black sesame seed, white sesame seeds, orange peel, ginger root, sichuan pepper and seaweed. The blend is used to season soups, noodles and rice dishes and to flavour tofu and rice crackers.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that this hot, spicy and aromatic blend was originally sold by Chinese herbalists as a medicine back in the 17th century? Like many blends, there are many variations on the recipe and even in the quantities of the individual ingredients used, across Japan you’ll find blends similar to ours and blends containing other ingredients including Japanese Pricklyash berries (Zanthoxylum piperitum) known in Japan as Sansho, hemp seeds, poppy seeds and tangerine peel.
Ingredients: Chilli Powder, Black Sesame Seed, White Sesame Seeds, Orange Peel, Ginger, Sichuan Pepper and Seaweed.
Allergy Advice: This product contains Sesame which is a known allergen. Also, Chilli and oregano which contain naturally occurring sources of salicylates and are best avoided by people eating a salicylate free diet.
SUGGESTED USEThis is a hot and fiery spice blend, so use sparingly, it can be used as a condiment and sprinkling on food to season it in the way you would use salt and pepper. Use it to season Japanese dishes such as udon noodles, yakitori, tempura, tofu and sprinkle on to steamed vegetables, and rice and grain dishes. Used as a dry rub or wet marinade it adds flavour to fish, meat and vegetables. Sprinkle it lightly over freshly popped corn for a tasty spicy savoury snack, or sprinkle over potato wedges or homemade crisps. Mix a little into salad dressings or low fat yogurt to make marinades, dips or toppings for baked potatoes, salads, grilled/baked fish and roasts.
Shelf life of two years provided that goods are stored in an airtight container in ambient conditions.
